This newly built 1600 square foot chalet on 175 acres overlooks a private valley with a large pond frequented by abundant wildlife including: Elk; Wild Horses; Deer; Bear; Porcupine; Bobcat; Coyote; Mountain Lion and other free-range wildlife. At an elevation of 9000 feet atop beautiful Wild Horse Mesa, vista views are breathtaking.
Located in the beautiful San Luis Valley near the community of San Luis - the oldest community in Colorado - Wild Horse Mesa sits surrounded by natures most excellent views. With the Sangre De Cristo Mountains to the east, the San Juan Mountains to the West and the Garitas Mountains to the North, Four Winds at Wild Horse Mesa is the perfect destination for any reason. 42 miles from Taos, New Mexico or 54 Miles from Alamosa, Colorado, Four Winds is central to SE Colorado's major vacation destinations.
Off the Grid
Completely solar powered with a backup propane generator Four Winds balances comfort and convenience with responsibility to the surrounding environment. During the winter, radiant floor heating and a very efficient wood burning fireplace keep everyone warm and cozy. During the summer it is so cool you will need to wear long sleeves at night with the windows open. Light snows can surprise you at anytime, even during the summer months. Words cannot describe the beauty of these mountains following a heavy snow. Never worry, first light, following moderate to heavy snows, plows are already on their way up the roads. Occupied roads, such as ours are kept clear year round, but would it be BAD to get snowed in for a day? Direct TV and WildBlue internet are available if you really must connect.
All brand-new stainless steel appliances complement the functional island kitchen. Two bedrooms (one up and one down), a sleeping loft, and air-mattress sleeping beds can comfortably accommodate eight (max.) persons. Two modern walk-in showers in both the master and guest bath provide bathing comfort.
Comfortable and Relaxing
This NON-SMOKING Wild Horse Mesa Vacation Rental chalet is perfect for elk hunting outings, romantic retreats, working vacations, family gatherings, and personal or holiday celebrations, with plenty of open spaces for entertaining. Besides the breathtaking views from all rooms the centerpiece of the main floor is the moss rock fireplace - taken right off Four Wind's property. Plenty of firewood cut and ready for use is provided for our guests. (Note- there is no cutting of standing trees permitted.)
Driving around the property you will be hard-pressed to count the many bands of Wild horses roaming free for over a hundred years. Hiking, river rafting, balloon rides and much more are available within 60 minutes drive of the Four Winds property.
You don't have to leave our valley to have a great chance at bagging your Goose, Elk or Mule Deer. Excellent Duck and Goose hunting can be found along the Rio Grande, the Alamosa and Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuges and San Luis State Park. Licenses can be purchased in San Luis. Information is provided in your welcome package.
4 mile long - 100 foot deep Sanchez Reservoir is just minutes away from our door. The Rio Grande River and many smaller lakes are all within 30 minutes with excellent Trout fishing. Sanchez Reservoir is noted for big Trout, huge Muskie, Walleyed Pike and Northern Pike. Again, licenses can be purchased in San Luis - information is included in your welcome package.
